Ear Cone InstructionsInstructions for Ear Coning

  • Ear Coning is an ancient practice that has been passed on for thousands of years, using fire and smoke to create the movement of energy for healing.
  • Always use Ear Cones with another person – This will prevent any accidents when using an open flame. And allows for you to totally relax and let go and enjoy the process.
  • You will need:
    • glass of water
    • paper plate
    • matches
    • towel
    • and of course your ear cone
  1. Cut a cross in the center of the paper plate and place the cone through the opening. You want it to be snug so it slightly moves but not too much so it falls through.
  2. The small end is on the bottom side or underneath the plate, closer to the ear. The line on the cone will be on the other side of the plate so you will see it (the line).
  3. Lie on your side, pull all hair away from the ear, light the Cone and gently place the small end of the Cone into the ear and hold it so that it’s comfortable between your fingers.

    • Gently tug on the ear lobe and the skin around the ear. This will let the Ear Cone drop easily into place. Takes a little getting used to, what your doing is allowing for the cone to fit nicely into the canal without pushing.
    • Ask the person being Coned how it feels to them and you might let them make an adjustment.
    • Be sure you do not squeeze the Ear Cone as this will close or damage the base of the ear cone stopping it from allowing the suction to work.
    • Make sure the small end is well seated in the ear.
  4. If you see smoke coming out of the bottom of the Cone, the Cone is not sealedso angle the cone slightly toward the nose, generally pointing upward. If you see a little bit of smoke that’s ok.
    • As the Cone burns down past the top opening, there will be a decrease in smoke spiraling down the inside of Cone. This is not hot and no wax will drip into the ear and no wax is being pulled out. You will feel a warm and soothing feeling. Like the sun on your face on a warm spring day.
    • As the flame burns down, you will start to see smoke rising from the top of the Cone, this is what you want to look for. If the smoke stops, slightly angle the candle again, until you see smoke rising. Sometimes there will not be any rising smoke for a short while, so wait a few moments to see what is happening. This is normal and part of the internal movement that allows the releasing process in Ear Coning.
  5. Watch the flame as it burns down on the Cone, you will see red embers on the cloth (looks black) as the flame is moving down the Cone. When you see no red embers, quickly pinch off the black part and put it in the glass of water. This is a gentle pinch as the black part is the residue of the cloth burning. It will not be hot if the red embers are gone. Have the towel to wipe your fingers on. What you are taking off will be very soft and easy to pitch off.
  6. When it burns down 7 inches or to the line, take the Cone out of the ear and extinguish the flame in the glass of water. Have the next Ear Cone ready to continue the process. I usually take the first Cone out of the paper plate, insert new Cone, lite the Cone with the first one i used and then put the used Cone into my glass of water.

How often should I use Ear Cones?
Please use your own judgment as to what feels normal based on how you feel after the treatment. A general suggestion is to use them as needed. Many people use at least three candles per ear, per session, doing this process three separate times and in the space of 10 – 14 days. If you are experiencing the beginning of a cold or flu or any ear, nose, throat symptoms, the closer together you cone the more likely your symptoms will lessen or go away.

Stop if you feel uncomfortable. Trust yourself. Listen to your intuition. Ear Coning allows your body to heal itself by releasing or letting go of what you are ready, willing and able to let go of on mental, emotional, physical and spiritual levels. Little by Little.

I actually tried this out and it was sort of gross how much ear wax it cleaned out…but great nonetheless!
